By James Cooley - August 01 2007 tags: emacs screencasts

The thing that got me interested in emacs (no capital X or captial E) was watching over the shoulder of power users (Paul, Ger, Hary) doing development on unix way back when. Edward who uses emacs for blogging, twitter and everything else has decided to to kill emacsen.org as it's hard to write up interesting hacks. Screencasts might be the way to go - I had never seen a gimp master in action until I saw GIMP tutorial - Face replace - no amount of documentation would have shown me how to do that. A couple of good screencasts could help to bring a new generation to emacs and an older generation back to emacs. One brave soul has shown the way with minor emacs wizardry: keyboard macros (sound and a better encoding scheme would help though).
